London-based challenger bank Revolut announced today that it will open up a new tech hub in Berlin, creating about 80 new jobs, including software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and marketing experts. The company will officially launch the Berlin hub in October this year.

The new teams will be focused on localizing Revolut’s product and services for the German and European market, while also supporting the wider business on exciting new projects, such as international expansion, commission-free stock trading and a new app for children.

The new tech hub will be located in Friedrichstraße, home to one of Europe’s largest fintech ecosystems. Revolut has chosen to locate its German office in the capital, a city which boasts the highest number of startups per capita in the country.

“There is an incredible amount of technical talent in Berlin, as we begin to scale our operations globally and expand our range of services, finding this kind of talent will be essential,”“We’re excited to begin our investment in Germany and create even more jobs in Berlin’s vibrant fintech ecosystem.”

said Vlad Yatsenko, co-founder and CTO at Revolut.

Revolut already has over 150,000 customers in Germany, and plans to hire a local marketing and communications team to further grow its customer base in the country in the coming weeks.
