AXA SA, the French insurance giant, has set its sights on expanding its finance team’s big data expertise in 2018, according to Chief Financial Officer Gérald Harlin. The insurer will dedicate 15 people to helping different business units gather additional financial information, one of whom will be focused solely on big data analysis, he said. AXA currently has 45 chief data officers on staff, but none work specifically for the finance group. “Big data is the domain that we will be developing further,” Mr. Harlin said Thursday in an interview with CFO Journal. AXA’s goal is to improve efficiency during the company’s reporting process and potentially shave off an entire day or more from the quarterly close. The company also hopes to get better visibility on the performance of its business units.
