The Post Office has launched an offensive on the UK banking industry, planning to become one of the biggest financial services providers by the end of the decade. The organisation yesterday put its savings, mortgages, insurance and currency services under the “Post Office Money” brand on Monday, and promised to muscle in on the bigger banks’ turf in the coming months by offering a number of new products. It came ahead of a meeting on Tuesday between Vince Cable and the UK’s biggest banks in which the Business Secretary will implore them to provide more services in Post Offices as they cut branch numbers.
