Hampden & Co bankers explain their four-year effort to join the ranks of the challenger banks It took more than four years for Hampden & Co to turn itself into a fully-fledged bank, but founder Ray Entwistle said he had a queue of customers before he even started to think about starting another lender. After his retirement from Adam & Co, the high-end bank he helped to launch, in 2010 Mr Entwistle was “suddenly inundated by people saying we think we need a new private bank”. “What happened in 2008 made banking a much more difficult profession; the fear factor had crept in and certainly in terms of cost-cutting and quality of service.
